Ice Storm Sewing

Welcome to NTT, y'all!  On Monday, west Tennessee was the recipient of about two inches of sleet, and an extra quarter inch of freezing rain glazing the top of it.  Sub-freezing temps since then have meant that the ice has lingered and afforded us a couple of snow days.  Hooray!  And I've been using my time wisely for sure-

This is my new pattern.  I'm calling it Baubles, and I honestly can't decide which direction I like the blocks best. What do you think?  I can't wait to get it written up!

Of course, for a square throw quilt it doesn't really matter, but it will for bigger sizes.  Even though we're not expecting anymore frozen precipitation tonight, the temperature is supposed to drop to four degrees, with wind chills well below zero.  Brrrrr....!!  Here in the south, most people just don't have the outerwear to deal with temps that cold, so it is possible (though not very likely) that we will get another day off.  My parents are visiting this weekend, so it would be fantastic to be able to finish this one tomorrow.  I'm really crossing my fingers!

Last week's party rocked!  Check out a few of the projects that really caught my eye-

Sew Sunshine linked up her finished Supernova Friendship Swap quilt.  I have loved seeing all of these blocks throughout the web.

Porch Swing Quilts showed off her Sunkissed granny square quilt.  I love how the quilting makes the grannies look like petals, and the sunshine in the photo shows it off perfectly!

and Tanya Quilts in CO shared her Preppy Patches and Pinwheels quilt.  What fun, happy colors!

Surely I'm not the only one who's been getting some great sewing time while hunkering down inside. I can't wait to see what you've been working on!

1.  You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing!
2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others.
3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link.
4. Spread the comment love far and wide!
5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated!

  1. Love all these quilts! It is really striking the way the pattern and quilting on Porch Swing Quilts' granny square quilt complement one another.

  4. I like your Baubles quilt. When I first saw it I thought it was Curlique Crush by Chasing Cottons. They are very similar. I have the pattern and my fabics for this quilt but I have to finish a few that are in progress before I start a new quilt.

  5. Kelly you always chose the most gorgeous fabrics for your quilts & Baubles is certainly no exception. The second picture is my favorite direction but both are beautiful.

  6. What a beautiful, happy quilt! The first one reminds me of open mouths :D
We got about a foot of snow in SWVA and now it's cold, cold, cold! I'm working on a chevron quilt for my oldest son and right now I don't know what on earth I was thinking.

  7. Hi Kelly! Your NEW quilt design looks beautiful and fun! I like the second/horizontal - like they look more bubbles. We have also very cold weather and winter cloths are needed to go for a puppy walk. Nice to be sewing inside. x Teje

  10. A very pleasing shape! I can see them short and wide in Christmas prints as the shape looks like an ornament! Then thin and tall in every day fabrics as it is a sophisticated shape!

  20. Loving your new pattern. The colors are beautiful as well.

Hope you are staying warm--my brother-in-law lives in Knoxville, so I know that the cold temps down there are very cold for all of you, as you said, you aren't well equipped for it like we are in Minnesota.
